Edward J. Shemansky, 89, of Tresckow, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in Tresckow on October 29, 1936, he was the son of the Late Walter and Anna (Baka) Shemansky. He was a faithful member of St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Tresckow, until their closing and currently a member of Church of All Saints, McAdoo.
Ed was a graduate of Hazleton High School, class of 1954. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran and carried that pride throughout his life. He worked at Beryllium Corp., All Steel Inc., Conlin Gunsmith and Hart Custom Rifles as a machinist/tool and dye maker. In his second career, he operated Ed’s Pest Control with his partner Zak and grandson Tyler. He was proud of the fact that he trapped over 1000 skunks in his customers’ backyards.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping, especially with his family and friends. He was a founding member of Big Buck Lodge and belonged to Paradise Fishing and Hunting Club, Bears Head Sportsman Assoc. and a past member of Tresckow Rod and Gun Club. Some of his favorite memories were his hunting and fishing trips to Alaska and Colorado with Jeff Kriznoski.
Ed was very proud of his coal region roots and giving coal plaques to family, friends and business owners. One of his lasting contributions was helping to place the two-ton piece of coal welcoming people into Tresckow. He also spearheaded the Arthur Gardner Memorial in Tresckow in 2017. Ed took pride in caring for the community through the Adopt-A-Highway program with grandson, Tyler Farran and Zak Kott.
Preceding him in death in addition to his parents, were his brother, Thomas Shemansky; brother-in-law, William Tarapchak; and nephew, Billy Tarapchak.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Mary Ann Kmetz; children, Ed (Debbie) Shemansky, Judy (Jim) Dougherty, Michael (Andrea) Shemansky, Petty Officer 2nd Class Bernadette Farran, USN, (Ret) and husband, Petty Officer 2nd Class Matt Farran, USN, (Ret), and Paul (Mercy) Shemansky; Grandchildren, Lindsey Horlacher, Meghan Tipsword, Tiffany O’Donnell, Shawn Dougherty, Michael Shemansky, Danielle Horwath, Tyler Farran, Andrew Shemansky and Paxton Shemansky; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Theresa Tarapchak; sister-in-law, Carol Shemansky; and nieces and nephews also survive.
His funeral will be held Monday, February 16, beginning at 10 a.m., from the Damiano Funeral Home Inc., McAdoo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at Church of All Saints, McAdoo. Private Burial with military honors will be held at a later date at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, honoring his service as a proud Army veteran.
Calling hours are Sunday, February 15, from 3 to 6 p.m. and Monday, February 16, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
